I light of my previous poll, I checked a bit of games today. I think if you stick to "safety", like make a classic cute otome game, or sexy yuri VN, etc and price it cheap enough, it's easy to reach >80% positive review on Steam, assuming writing/art is decent

the more stuff you add, like choose male/female protagonists or adding RPG/simulation/other form of gameplay, the riskier it becomes. Because you could get negative reviews for the gameplay, or because there aren't enough romance options, and so on

so my advice to newbies attempting to do their first VN would be to stick to one genre only, do either an otome, or yaoi, or yuri VN. Don't do anything complex or add too much romance variety, since the risks exponentially increases

you might ask why I am not following my own advice. Well first of all I'm lucky enough to have a nice following so I can take more risks, since my income is not based only on Steam. Second, I have started many games I need to finish. Third, I will follow this advice in future

Awww but I like that your games have diversity. I do tend to like otome games the best but really, I'll like any VN as long as it has a good story.
