Have you seen a flying-fox get a drink? They belly-dip, & then drink the water off their chest During heat waves flying-foxes will belly-dip during the day to cool down, they also roost closer to the ground in deeper shade 1/2

This story is epic. Sent to me by a citizen scientist near Lismore due to research into brush turkeys - about a brush turkey that bonded with some chooks then put its life on the line to defend the chooks from an aggressive dog!!

Although it's fair to say some people find the whole "killing baby koalas" thing a little bit confronting. Ain't nature grand?

I hope you report your turkey-baby sightings using the BRUSHTURKEYS app across NSW & QLD - where we see different timing of the breeding season between southern & northern turkeys. You can help us learn more👍

In case you hadn’t realised, trees are awesome. In addition to absorbing CO2 (carbon dioxide) and releasing O (oxygen) which we need to breath - they also provide homes, including for the beautiful Sacred Kingfisher Everyone can report

Is the collected by projects as useful as professionally collected data? Latest research suggests that data could accurately predict species richness, making your contributions to citizen science very useful.

He’s right about one thing - Australian’s must adapt to a warmer climate - because the path we & the world are on is heading towards 4 degrees Celsius warmer He is dead wrong that we’re ‘carrying our load’ = continued failure of leadership for decades

Every time I do a tour of herbarium - I pick a different box of the 832 specimens we have collected by Banks & Solander. This one was a surprise - collected in New Zealand in 1769 - the oldest in our herbarium - Parietaria debilis - native pellitory found in Aust & NZ

One of the more fun things I learned in travels last year: echidna at the top and bottom of Australia have distinct hairstyles. Top End ones had eminently sensible shorter hair while the Tasmanian ones sported a stylish bouffant, very handy for those cooler days.
