Troy McAlister, the alleged driver of the stolen car that recently killed two innocents, was arrested for the stickup of a Mission grocery store in July 2015. On May 24, 2018, Troy had a court date for that robbery in Dept 20 and guess which SF public defender represented him?1/3

In a normal city, after confiding to a public defender, no arrestee would want that attorney-armed with confidential info-now prosecuting him. They’d ask the DA to recuse. But in SF, suspects still trust, despite his new job title, that Chesa is still public defender at heart. 2/3

On 4/10/20, facing a possible final strike for the robbery, Chesa offered his former public defender client, Troy, no prison time, and instead credit for time previously served in county jail. A Chesa-decision that would eventually cost two innocent women their lives. (3/3)
