As a facet of the government, wouldn't this place the @FDICgov in direct violation of the first amendment? If I'm correct, this would mean that we're no longer in the "private corporations can do as they please" territory, this is government censorship.

That's correct.

Oh, good. So, how do people start the process of directing all this anger in a legal format?
-
A lawsuit for this very thing was filed back in 2014.
@SuperNerdLand pointed to this bit of info: https://www.ballardspahr.com/alertspublications/legalalerts/2014-10-08-cfsa-presses-its-case-against-operation-choke-point.aspx … However, more recently Rep Luetkemeyer has a bill that would repeal the effects; contacting reps to hurry it along could help: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/2706 … -
@youtuberlaw Needs to know about this. He actually wants the FTC to look into what's going on. He's currently streaming right now, hopefully he's seen this info. Does the FTC have authority over the FDIC? Is the FTC capable of stopping the FDIC from doing this? -
The FDIC first pitched proto-Choke Point to the FTC before it was given the greenlight by the DOJ. He needs to find out who at the FTC was working with the FDIC to make Choke Point a reality.
-
He said he wants to get the investigation/gears started, so maybe if we drum up enough noise he'll be able to do so. Like, why is this Operation still going on when it's in direct opposition to Trump's agenda?
-
It was supposed to have ended back in August of 2017, but it didn't. The FDIC have been using it against orders to financially stifle businesses. A bipartisan supported bill was supposed to have reversed the effects, but the bill is stuck in bureaucratic purgatory.

Thanks, I'll update the story with the info.

Here is another one, talking about how there *does* need to be a push in congress to stamp out this kind of thing altogether. Sounds like any other admin (or even rogue elements in current one) could keep it up or restart ithttps://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/civil-rights/348379-doj-stops-operation-choke-point-for-now-but-congress-must-end …

So.. Then the government is at least partly behind it and it's literally censorship even by the lefts definition? Brilliant..

I'm SO done with this trend of financial companies who try to dictate what LEGAL products/services consumers can/can't spend their own money on. As long as it's legal, just take our money, give it to the merchant, and keep a transaction fee for yourselves. It's not that hard.

Attacking online creators is one thing - But to attack and shutdown some of the most powerful, yet underappreciated musicians alive is a whole other problem. You're going to lose this war

Then I suggest stop using them and move to a platform used by billions in China. At this point Chinese policy around economy is better and our own US policy and thats sad.
