Real awareness provides useful information from Autistic people themselves. AutismSpeaks has actively ignored Autistic people for a decade

So you can ONLY get useful information from people with autism...?
-
Yes. Absolutely yes.
-
Yes, guessing what works 4 Autistic people isn't 'best practice'. Deciding what is best for them w/o their input is thoughtless & offensive.
-
So I will refer to another source as your view is offensive to me and my family and especially my autistic brother. Good day.
-
My son is an Autistic person of which you speak. The world he needs...amplifies the crucial 'inside' information Autistic people provide.
-
You haven't referred to my comments...Just directed it back to yourself...Do you still think me and my family and friends are what you say?
-
I am saying the BEST place to receive inside knowledge to support Autistic people is from the source. I have learned greatly from listening!

It's Awareness vs. Acceptance. Cancer is something to raise awareness about. Autism is something to work to build acceptance for.
-
But there are people who aren't aware of what exactly autism is...People see Rain Man and think that it's that...

So, are you objecting to the tone of their arguments? Or to the substance of their arguments? They do have a legit argument to make.

What even is "awareness"? everyone has heard of it. We want *respect* and support. Allow us to be who we are, don't try to "cure" us.

Because "awareness" is often spread in ways that are dehumanizing to Autistics. That's why we prefer ACCEPTANCE over awareness.

Awareness, yes. Telling people autism is a disaster and supporting parents who kill their autistic children? No.

Not the awareness day, but Autism Speaks. Simple as that

I get that you were sincerely trying to help. I don't agree with AS's stance, but I thank you for genuinely trying to help.

As an aspie I would like awareness. I grew up being told I was 'different' and 'special'.
