Just to remind @AbolishEton & Labour Against Private Schools that Jeremy Corbyn went To Castle House Private Prep School & selective Adams’ Grammar School. His son Benjamin went to selective Queen Elizabeth Grammar School it was fine for your leader but no one else!pic.twitter.com/4pxTwATFtg

None of what your posting so far constitutes a legitimate moral defence of private education. The bottom line still stands - accident of birth and the wealth of one's parents should not decide the quality of a child's education, and hence the child's future.

By your rules we must also #abolishHomeReading as this is the factor most highly correlated with children's academic success, and some parents can afford more books. Do you want to organise #bookBurning maybe, to equalise opportunity and remove #privilege ?

Home reading and tutoring are not as pervasive or exclusive as that of elite private education, nor do they consistently infiltrate the upper echelons of our society. You can remedy issues with home reading and tutoring by simply funding schools and libraries well.

Or we could fund libraries and schools and target lower income/working class families with specific projects to provide those children with literature. I spent a full summer working as a children’s summer reading programme volunteer, these programmes work.

You'd rather burn books than allow poor children to read them. This is called projection.

Or properly fund both local and state school library services with trained librarians? That way kids and adults will be able to borrow books and read them at home. No need to buy anything.

Yes becuase having more books totally equates to the ability to read. And there are no libraries. Or charity shops. Or friends who lend books. Wild guess, but I'm imagining you didn't read a lot as a child?

A guess as purile and inaccurate as it was wild. I will not grace your childish insinuation with a reply detailing my upbringing, but I assure you my parents worked hard to provide me with mental stimulus. Radio 4 helped.
