Oh I support usually discredited but popular viewpoints because they are only superficially fallacious is definitely a thing, and it's just mainstreamism with extra steps. -
My general take: yes there are generally factors that make the case against popular idea X weaker than they might appear at first, but they are second order, not first order corrections.
