Sometimes I wonder if science fiction movies/books have more impact over defining our vision for the future than the tech industry itself. Pieces of sci-fi stories often become the cultural stock image of progression that we strive to realize, whether consciously or not.
my gut would say yes, but every five years some billionaire’s family office or unicorn startup hires some incredibly well known science fiction author and tries to use it for propaganda and it has never worked well. I wonder where the disconnect is.
yeah, I've heard a lot of horror stories about this as well. it often sounds like a disconnect between the storyteller stubbornly clinging to their original vision (perhaps rightfully so) while the startup struggles to adapt the concept to work in a non-imaginary world.
