I’m in great shape, strong, big, and pretty athletic. But I’m past my prime and not world class at any sport. What sport can I master in 4-8 years and make it to the Olympic? A guys gotta dream.

Its sailing 100%, too many classes for small countries to field realistic competition across of them. A friend was a competent dinghy racer as a kid, and is now an Olympic sailor for a smaller euro nation

Almost all of the best sailors in the world do it from a young age. The sixth sense of reading the wind and water is not something you can quickly pick up. I’m constantly in awe of the intuition of my friends who’ve grown up on the water have

(sailed very competitively until very recently so very much hear the push back) but if your goal is to enter, not win, an Olympic class— and have the money to spend — it’s a non zero probability you can do it here

Definitely a great option to get a shot at an Olympic start line! Fully agree with that opinion. Very expensive, niche, and time consuming sport that few have access to, so if you can make it to international regattas and support a campaign you’re already in the 1%

Definitely not non zero and not a great option. The host country buys the boats so they limit # of athletes. Each country has to qualify to attend the olympics. So you’d have to be good enough to qualify the countryhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailing_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Qualification …
