Feels like mentorship is universally praised as inherently good but more often than not I’ve seen those relationships play out as ultimately net-negative for the mentee

You’d have to miraculously meet someone early-on who has the right alignment of skills/connections/values that you need to be successful and be willing to invest time connecting and maintaining that relationship. It’s unreasonable
