Has anyone built a symptom checking site that’s Bayesian? Could be good for a) cases where common ailments have rare symptoms that overlap with rare problems, and b) flu/Covid diagnosis

thank you. Yes this is so damn critical. Maybe some critical use cases around STI rates and demographic issues.

I always end up working backwards from misaligned incentives, tests and treatments pay better than finding ways to keep people healthy. So I wouldn’t expect real demand except from nerdy consumers, and maybe from health insurers.

Generally agree that with health you maybe need to hook into some pathology. Maybe a “given your demographics, you likely don’t need a (prostate exam, back MRI, ankle x-ray), etc.” Maybe you start w preventing over treatment from misaligned incentives, harness laziness

Per the notorious RAND study, people actually like getting over-tested and over-treated. At least enough of them do that it gets expensive.

Assorted thoughts: 1. Symptom checkers suck - they aren't ever very good 2. Focus on end points is too small and part of why change never comes to healthcare 3. Opportunity is to fit these tools into a larger practice/service in a way that drives better outcomes, access, and UX.

simple diagnosis is never an interesting endpoint in clinic, have to build infrastructure to support clinical decision making broadly. good atul comment on this in a CWT:pic.twitter.com/ZH2hZJELJi
