Yeah, I'll never understand how people are building off of a technology they have no control over, seems like it'll end up like the '49 gold rush, with Satya selling shovels
a lot of the *penAI folks seems to suggest that this is similar to the secular shift from onprem to hosted solutions, once you hit a certain scale it becomes clearly obvious to spin up your own solution i worry with this metaphor you are ignoring the lifecycle of these models.

Depends on the use case I think, adding natural language functionality to an intercom chatbot is different than using GPT-3 to develop websites or automated process descriptions without human moderation.

This is the classic problem with democratizing access to any sophisticated piece of technology. People who don't understand the limitations or operating principles can now use it. The creators build hype to move product, which leads to inflated expectations, "off-label" uses...
