The core issue within imagining game engines as the os authoring layer for emerging platforms, when examined through complex systems theory, is the danger of importing complex and tightly coupled systems into a new, high stakes environmenthttps://twitter.com/nwilliams030/status/1197188308163551233?s=20 …

Charles Perrow was the first to characterize systems according to two important dimensions: "complexity and tight or loose coupling. Systems that are more complex and tightly coupled are more prone to accidents and have to be made more reliable." pic.twitter.com/xlSQANbO6l

The move from dedicated severs to matchmaking is part of the same atomization trend that made the internet shit; see also aggregate social media strip mining the abstraction of "community" and reinventing it as an endless stream of dopamine tailored single serving interactions. https://twitter.com/Thebloodsire/status/1229881824954003456 …

Watching santi play chess & noticed that they have a feature that asks you if your opponent was a good sport after the match, & if you don’t exhibit good sportsmanship a few times it starts pairing you with only other poor sports - is this a common feature in player matching?

Until recently I had no idea that game engines are basically eating the world. Urban planning, architecture, automotive engineering firms, live music and events, filmmaking, etc. have all shifted a lot of their workflows/design processes to Unreal Engine and Unity

Game engines are philosophically interesting because building a 3-D operating system for all requires having some philosophy of the best way to render infinite details of the world, which naturally demands prioritizing certain tools, functionalities, details or representations.

Similarly, it's interesting to see the way game engines get reused for external industries (architectural renderings, automotive renderings) and how these patterns of re-use betray the overlapping philosophies about how the details of the world are best portrayed.
