In the first Thiel Fellowship batch, the gaggle of ex-whizkids I know best, there's basically a 100% correlation between how obviously outlier they were at 12yo and how long they spent in the void at ~24yo. I'm not sure I know anyone who avoided it entirely
I think the lesson here is you probably don’t want to be an outlier young in anything that is easily measured. Being great at math at 6 is probably bad as you get tracked quickly, being good at art/coding doesn’t.
I dont think it matters. do you know if the top couple people who are best in the world at competitive programming at ~12yo were ever sentenced to the void? I know don't that community and this isn't rhetorical, but I'd expect they were
