the idea that you can "teach critical thinking" is complete hogwash. you can improve the cognitive skills of people who are already good at thinking. that's it

Would you agree that if diplomacy makes people better at actually noticing deception outside of the context of diplomacy, that this counts as causing people to be better at applying their mental models?
diplomacy causes a shift from a set of social models that assume cooperation to a set of mental models that assume betrayal because it’s a zero sum game. I suspect telling a person this would have roughly the same effect

that's a surprising assumption to me, because people are frequently told that there are predatory people in the world and frequently often, except sometimes when they are 'taught a lesson' Making the lesson imminent and practical seems almost guaranteed to get better results.
