There's a VC in Silicon Valley with a decent following and I have a strong suspicion this person works for a foreign intelligence service. Their life history doesn't check out. Source of funds sketchy. Being an "investor" is an easy cover story to cultivate human assets in S.V.

Interesting. If it's from China, the money became really hard to get here starting last year (CFIUS, etc), so they'd probably probably have to raise external capital now. Russia would be much easier to get the $ here.

Also not hard to shuffle money around via crypto then split into regulatory size chunks minus ~$(whatever won't arouse deep-state suspicion) for legal deposit under targeted local currencies. Anonymizes sources too.
