Can someone explain the whole "cheering on the decline of the university" thing to me? I don't get it. A world where the only functioning institutions are tech companies & hedge funds is, in fact, a dystopian one.

Yeah this is my position exactly. Three buckets for institutions: 1. Works great —> do nothing 2. Lots of problems but basically ok —> reform 3. Irreparably bad —> abolish & replace People seem to be throwing everything that’s not a tech company into #3.

also tranche three people dramatically underestimate how hard founding a new institution is. There are functionally no reasonable (non state system) colleges founded after the war. I went to one, it was terrifying. It’d not like burning down Harvard means we get to reallocate it
