Every time I've had to be in Boston (I love it), I'm amazed at how expensive it is. I can get a nice hotel room for less in NYC (inventory, but still). Boston is fantastic, but not inexpensive.

Well, fwiw, Boston is such a different city...and in many ways, a far more livable one. By the water, has a small-town coastal feel...can take a ferry to Cape Cod.
