Agreed, it’s why you’re seeing a bunch of healthcare and life sciences businesses opening second offices here but less so from other industries

Every time I've had to be in Boston (I love it), I'm amazed at how expensive it is. I can get a nice hotel room for less in NYC (inventory, but still). Boston is fantastic, but not inexpensive.

can’t stop thinking about the fact that I could be in a nice two bedroom in Lower Manhattan for the same price I’m paying for a okay one bedroom in Cambridge

Rent in the city is the same but the suburbs here are shorter commutes, better schools, and a helluva lot cheaper than SF. I can’t afford Boston but the burbs are fine. Couldn’t afford SF suburbs at all. Better for families in tech imo.
-
Also I’m too much of an cynic for SF. Maybe I’d do ok in NY.

I think this is directly correct. I am heavily biased here by indexing on being "in your mid 20s and in a city"

Boston is a fantastic place to have a family and raise kids

Who touts that Boston is cheap? Always viewed the startup ecosystem in Boston existing because of access to elite entry level talent (college town), access to VC funding, and generally lower cost of living within a 30 min-1hr commute of the city
