there's some actual wisdom here, in that the benefits of working as a junior VC become asymmetrically bad unless you're in it to make partner. the longer you work at a startup, the more senior a VC you are. the reverse is not true

I disagree with this point if you're at a name brand firm. Once you break past a certain level within venture (i'd argue principal is min), you actually have 1 move after venture where the market values your skills at a higher level than others leveling up within that vertical.

agree heavily. The venture -> high level strategy roles jump is well established, just one Eng have little visibility to.
