continuously amazed by the failure of hedge's forays into venture. They have better data, late stage relationships, and warchests to invest across the lifecycle. Is VC culture this difficult to export? If I was a young, ambitious, smart person in venture I'd be running to one.

Agree on the importance of proprietary deal flow at early stages. This seems to even out by series b+ also, where HF’s can pay up. I wonder, given how many firms have deep benches of strong junior talent that is unlikely to advance internally, how much is importable early.
