      continuously amazed by the failure of hedge's forays into venture. They have better data, late stage relationships, and warchests to invest across the lifecycle. Is VC culture this difficult to export? If I was a young, ambitious, smart person in venture I'd be running to one.

      the insane part is the data these funds have are make and break for enterprise founders. What would you rather: expensive capital with a platform team, or cheap capital that also comes along with a hundred person research team with data on all your customers.

      Data may not be helpful at the seed stage, and I have data to support this.

      I don't think data is overwhelmingly helpful for picking co's at any stage. I do think data on customer behavior/deal structure, esp in enterprise/f500 when we get this in relatively high fidelity, is incredible useful to portcos

      The smartest team in economics and data science (multiple Nobel laureates) have built this, and seen market leading results at growth stage, but scrapped it for Seed. There are much less qualified teams doing this at Seed stage now. It will not end well for them.
