continuously amazed by the failure of hedge's forays into venture. They have better data, late stage relationships, and warchests to invest across the lifecycle. Is VC culture this difficult to export? If I was a young, ambitious, smart person in venture I'd be running to one.

Which hedge funds have taken an earnest stance in venture and failed in your opinion? Not random funds doing a few pre-IPO, but true Pre-series D capital and a real portfolio.

Data may not be helpful at the seed stage, and I have data to support this.

I don't think data is overwhelmingly helpful for picking co's at any stage. I do think data on customer behavior/deal structure, esp in enterprise/f500 when we get this in relatively high fidelity, is incredible useful to portcos

are you sure this is true? HFs really only have public data + various mtg notes. A lot of them are moving upstream (Coatue, Tiger, DEShaw, Point72, TwoSigma, Fidelity, etc.) but data is in no way how they differentiate themselves. They cannot own MNPI
