Is it responsible to build a company in SF when it would be *so* much cheaper literally anywhere else? (and therefore could pay employees more, and do even more R&D)? Realistically I don't want to leave SF anytime soon - but eugh, I feel a bit guilty about it

I think the new trend now is that the CEO and CMO are in SF but the COO and CTO and the rest of the team are in another place like Austin, Texas.

^seeing this more and more. Be close to your customers for the first few years and open a second office if you need to scale hires from a metropolitan area later.

Yeah considering splitting R&D (not SF) and consumer team (SF). Potential cultural issues are quite inhibiting to kicking this forward

Agree. I work at a fund that invests in the greater Philly area. The area's getting a lot of attention now bc of all the big biotech spin-outs (in which case sometimes the C-suite is based outside the city for fundraising purposes) but there's def. a large talent pool generally.

also the delaware valley is legitimately a beautiful place to live. Low density, relative low cost of living, proximity to major urban centers. AZ + others will likely be shown to be right to double down there in the long run
