the CEO-as-twitter-persona-in-chief does nothing but put a target on the back of a company. I don't understand why in the world anyone is still doing this, I understand it less when its a company cargo-culting hyperscale.

The purpose of a high profile CEO is to have someone valuable to shoot when something goes wrong. It puts a target on the back of the CEO rather than the company.
