would also add that intentional isolation and manual labor really, really helps. Many of my best friendships came from being locked in boarding school as a result, but you can simulate this as an adult quiet easily.
almost dying seems to almost always do the trick: niche hikes, building a company, saying anything on twitter, travelling, climbing, etc.
