crazy but super high-signal idea: "reject" every candidate (very graciously, of course) and see how they react before giving them an offer it's amazing how quickly people will reveal their true selves when they think they never have to interact with you again!

clarification: the goal here would be to select against people who turn vitriolic (happens surprisingly often), not to look for any other kind of reaction or response. also, please don't actually do this. to be clear, we don't.

I get how the tweet in isolation of the goal sounds like a perfect way to discriminate against candidates who would be put off by such a tactic (which is most sane people, myself included...) It probably should have read something like this to begin with:https://twitter.com/yasyf/status/1149371943944015872 …

Yasyf Mohamedali @yasyfReplying to @shriyanevatia @shohiniguptaalso agreed - would never actually do this. but do wish there was a way to see early if someone is going to become disrespectful when challenged. there have been a few times where we've rejected people and then realized how much of a bullet we dodged based on their response.1 reply 0 retweets 5 likesShow this thread -
(and ty to
@shohinigupta and@WillManidis for pointing that out. would have hated for people to have walked away with that impression without letting me know how it came across)1 reply 0 retweets 3 likesShow this thread -
Replying to @yasyf @WillManidis
I feel like structuring interviews so that they’re debates could better test this! See how they do when you challenge them / tell them they’re wrong / how they take feedback on the spot Have had some interesting interviews like this happy to share more

we prefer to structure interviews by stranding candidates on partially deserted desert islands to see if they are resourceful enough.
