This is the coldest take-- 23andMe didn't build their empire on customers making an informed choice on low cost sequencing vs privacy, but instead customers not realizing the value of the data they are giving up. No different than facebook.

I feel like most people have a sense of the value of their genomic data? Maybe irrationally skewing towards fear of harm even..
I think there’s a leap between “finding out my heritiage” and “having my genome sequenced” that’s non-obvious.
