In an effort to raise the minimum #GCC version required to build the #linux kernel to 4.8 (7 years old) I've fallen down a rabbit hole and ended up having to hack the page table code for #m68k (68040 released 30 years ago). I wonder who runs this stuff?

Might be unpopular opinion, but when stuff like that ends up being nothing but a maintenance burden, it's time to cut it loose...

Ah, @gnutools GCC 4.8. A fine vintage to uncork on a cold evening. Fresh hints of AArch64 linger on the tongue, with an aftertaste of -Og to optimise for debug. The 2013 weather resulted in the astringent reload flavour of previous releases becoming a more palatable, cherry LRA

What hardware out of curiosity? Gotta imagine it’d be nearly possible to find something … new.

And has for 20 years, at least. (I used to be a part of the Debian port for m68k...)
