Open wells are an incredible danger to leopards and every day, tens of these majestic cats fall prey to this insidious threat, often threatened by imminent death. Most times they are out of the reach of assistance, but in a recent incident, help was quite nearby.

The leopard had fallen into the well on a foraging sojourn and was staring at imminent death when some kind hearted villagers noticed her and contacted the state forest department and Wildlife SOS for assistance.

In a true tale of kindness and perseverance, 9 gritty villagers trained by us in conflict mitigation and awareness came together to help rescue the stranded animal. Once establishing that the feline was not harmed, she was released into a safe habitat.
