Just saw comet 29P visually for the first time. This was a big item in my bucket list. I estimated the mag as 10.9, a DC of 7 and a diameter of &0.5'. Obs made with a 12.5" dobsonian from my backyard North of Tucson. It's time form me to get back into visual

Reading 's tweets this morning I was trying to get my head around just how big Comet Bernardinelli-Bernstein (aka C/2014 UN271) is. So here's a graphic I've just made to show an (edited) illo of it in comparison to some other Solar System objects.

A comparison of several Solar System object in relation to the Oort Cloud comet C/2014 UN271. The smallest shown, 4.34KM-wide Comet 67P is shown at bottom left with the bodies increasing in diameter towards the right-hand side. The icy globe of Saturn's moon Enceladus looms in the background at 514km across.

Francois Kugel just shared an image of 95P/Chiron on the Comet Watch FB group. His image shows an elongation in ~ PA 270 consistent with the ATEL that M. Dobson et al. sent on Sept 8. It's been a long time since 95P/Chiron was active! Image by F. Kugel.

Comet P/2021 R4 (Wierzchos) has just been announced by the Minor Planet Center. It is my first named icy mud ball of the periodic variety. I'm trying to keep it cool and all but I CAN'T.

So during my last observing shift I discovered something interesting in the night sky. Fingers crossed that it gets confirmed 🤞.
