    A colleague who served time pointed out to me awhile back that it's not only capricious at all times, but possibly unconstitutional at certain times. It's high-time that we not only look at clemency, but also reinstate parole.

    A blanket of snow has covered the Navajo Nation, but roads are unplowed because federal maintenance has stopped. Many people are now trapped in their homes, unable to make the 20- or 50-mile journey to buy water, groceries and medicine.

    Public service/social service and activism work is not synonymous with a vow of poverty. Yet people seem to expect do-gooders to be broke AF. It's hard to do work that makes a difference when you are struggling to keep the lights on at home. Long term, it's not sustainable.
