        Less than a month later, Americans claimed a key victory when Fort McHenry repulsed British forces in Baltimore. The Treaty of Ghent and the American victory at the Battle of New Orleans helped frame the war as a national victory. (7/9)

        Rebuilding the Executive Mansion in the same location and design became a point of pride, and original architect James Hoban did just that. In October 1817, President James Monroe moved into the White House, where every American president and his family has lived since. (8/9)
