I was just accused of misandry because I chose to circumcise my sons, and do not equate male circumcision with FGM - this on a thread about the NYT article on the special #misogyny of #childbirth. I am blocking the #trolls but felt this would be an appropriate responsehttps://twitter.com/tnicholsmd/status/1080282950418092032 …

I’ve never been able to understand “intactivists” other than as guys who are insecure about their dicks, and want to find a way to obsess about it while blaming other people. Besides, I know guys who have HAD to get circumcised as adults, and they all wished it’d been as infants!

Liar This is the same line everyone uses when they defend genital cutting "Durr I know a guy..." No, you don't, and no one believes it anymore

You’re right! I’ve known two of em! But here’s the think, bucko - personal experiences may mislead or lie, but statistics don’t. And your odds of needing surgery on an intact dick, including and beyond circumcision, are greater than complications from having one as an infant.

Yeah, that's not true though. Being generous and assuming benefits exist at all, it would take hundreds of cuts to prevent one complication of foreskin. Complications of circumcision are over 1 in 10 http://spuonline.org/abstracts/2018/P21.cgi … Not even counting loss of foreskin itself as a harm

Besides being incorrect... I’m not arguing circumcision is “better”. It may slightly reduce risk of complications, and transmission of some STI’s, but in a modern society with good hygiene, it’s not a *huge* benefit. At worst it’s a wash and hardly worth “activism”, however!

but hey it was another way they could use their #MalePrivilege to take over a thread about women's sexual dysfunction from childbirth and make it about THEM.

I’m just surprised it took three replies for them to get to “but my orgasms aren’t as great as I imagine they could be, and that is definitely as important as women suffering and dying!”

The problem is that it sexually damages men. Some more than others. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21672947  https://www.academia.edu/6395137/Adding_Insult_to_Injury_Acquisition_of_Erectile_Dysfunction_from_Circumcision … https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17155977  Which is what it was originally meant to do: cut off pleasurable parts to discourage masturbation.pic.twitter.com/NnZOaKBWWP

Didn’t say it was zero risk. Just that the benefits outweigh the risks - and intact foreskins carry their own risks, including seriously harming sexual function later in life.

I’m more baffled by the fact that there are guys who are having orgasm after orgasm and saying “Dammit, this just isn’t enjoyable enough! I’m sure im missing out on something!” (This also, btw, is a BIG reason it is NOT equivalent to FGM at all)

Okay if you believe the medical benefits outweigh the risks then why isn't there any medical institution in the world saying so? The closest out there is the AAP, and the most they say is that -cultural- benefits MAY outweigh medical risks -in the parent's opinion-.

And seriously man, you don't know my experience. Some of us aren't having "orgasm after orgasm" you know. Some of us have never gotten to experience that during sex once in our entire lives. Hi. I'm right here.
