as kind of a 'halloween treat' I'd like to make my vampire stitch model available as a 3D print file at the end of the month! Though personally I only have experience working to shapeways printing specifications and was curious to know any general 3d printing model rules

What the others have said is correct. I’d just add that you may want to thicken the cape in order for the printer to print it without issue and maybe make it a seperate pièce came goes for the ears (they could even be attached to the cape for easy assembly).

Separate pieces is a great idea! I was worried about how the cape would print and had planned to thicken it out a bit, but having it as another piece should prevent some of the problems I was worried about!

Sure should :) Be sure to make a nice thick key for it though for ease of assembly. I would seriously consider doing the same with the ears too.
