Except Playstation was trying to be Smash and tried to be different by incorporating dodgy mechanics Rivals of Aether was very clearly heavily inspired by Smash but, but each character has a unique skill that leads to interesting gameplay Also it's just better
I think that what Playstation did in the end made the game different enough from smash. It was a party fighting game, yes, but I think those mechanics made it different enough and to me it was enjoyable to play with friends or online. That last bit can be subjective so that's eh
