and that goes both ways. sometimes a white character just wouldn't make sense in a setting or role, issa thing sometimes. fin
I feel it only doesn't make sense if you're trying to represent a specific minority/sexuality/gender, but then use a character that isn't that, e.g. making a story about MLKJr or something and having a white person play him It really only applies to retellings of actual events

Also I looked it up and there were women in WW2, very few fought on the frontlines, but there were still some

Women had wartime duties but were barred from front lines, but anyways, there are times when there's shoehorning. Not to say inclusion isn't important because it is!
