I've realised something, and it's that people seem to think representation and empowerment are obstructions to a good story which is dumb

sometimes they are. shoehorning things in without any sort of grace is a thing that happens. that one battlefield game with a female soldier at the forefront of a WWII game comes to mind, just doesn't make sense for the setting. if it makes sense, awesome, but it doesn't always.

a diverse cast of characters is amazing and inclusion is definitely to be expected, but to say that there ISN'T a point where it becomes flagrant shoehorning seems dishonest. there are times when, for the setting to make sense and be immersive, gotta make compromises.

"forced diversity" argument is completely false. A lot of these reactionaries are just uncomfortable seeing POC/Gay/Women in media. To imply that there was Forced diversity would mean that every character by default is a straight white guy, that was forcibly changed.
