TERFs run disinformation campaigns on social media to cloak their regressive bullshit in the language of social justice. And a lot of people don't know enough queer history to be able to distinguish disinformation like this, so they get tricked into spreading this garbage.

Queer got reclaimed in the 80s and 90s. "We're here, we're queer, get used to it!" was shouted by radical AIDS activists. Universities have Queer Studies. Queer as Folk and Queer Eye on TV. It's okay to say these words and to use them for our community.

Ultimately, TERFs want to stick everyone into their "biologically" determined boxes based on what bits they had at birth. A term like queer (unlike gay) that blurs those boxes threatens their prerogative. That's why they hate the word queer and want to shut it down.

What is the policy on the use of the word "queer" by cis-hets? I have heard that historically it's been considered a slur, so is that a term limited to the community?

1) some cis-hets are queer. 2) if you really meant "by people who are not part of the lgbtq community", then so long as they use it respectfully, i have no problem with it. ditto hets using gay respectfully.

What are queer cis-hets? Are they those on the ace spectrum? (Also, I read that sometimes kinksters are included under the queer label, though that's controversial.) Is that what you're referring to? Are there any others...

I don't know. I might have misunderstood your comment earlier about "people who are not in the lgbtq community"; I thought it implied some cis-het queers aren't in the community. Perhaps a misunderstanding on my part.

"people who are not in the lgbtq community" means (to me) people who are not l, g, b, t, q or any of the + groups. if someone is cis-het + queer, they part of the lgbtq community.
