Try this, this is more of a summarized tweaks that you can make, https://dev.to/adammcquiff/improve-the-performance-of-webstorm-and-other-jetbrains-ides-11bc … it is slow for the first 10 minutes after startup probably because of the heavy indexing. So I mostly won't close it and just put the laptop into sleep.

I mean why do you need to do so many things to make an IDE fast
Just doesn't get in my head.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Yes, I agree. There should be better defaults that aim for maximum performance. But it might be something specific to your setup too, I can only speak from my experience but it was having too many plugins which I don't use anymore.
@WebStormIDE hoping you guys could weigh in?1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

But typing is still lagging behind no? Typing feels much more heavy than
@code... I notice a latency even with the experimental feature enabled.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Man, I just can't switch. It just feels slow and so heavy. I think I ll stick to Code even if the Rust support is worse.

On Windows or what OS? What hardware? I don't get any of this slowness on a MacBook Pro i9 or older i7. Also there is a new lightweight editor mode, have you tried it?

Fully spec'ed out Mac Book 16" (2020). I doubt it's the hardware capacity. No idea what's wrong or if it's software related. I actually red that there seems to be a driver issues with the integrated graphics card if you have automatic switching turned on. Not approved tho.

It's fast for me on my computer, but you need a good ssd and a bunch of memory. VS Code is definitely faster, but WS does a lot more. And I'm so much more productive with Webstorm!

Yea I don't know. I have a full spec'ed out Mac 16". Hardware should not be an issue but no idea. Typing feels really laggy and scrolling is also not smooth. No idea.

Excluding folders with dynamically generated files from indexing might help here, please see this article for more info: http://jetbrains.com/help/webstorm/indexing.html#exclude …. If possible, please capture the CPU snapshot as described here: http://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241235-Reporting-performance-problems#CPU_Snapshot_2019_2 … and share it with us: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/WEB .

@intellijrust are there any Rust-specific tips that could help in this situation?1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

You may try to use new macro expansion engine (see https://github.com/intellij-rust/intellij-rust/issues/3628 …). It should decrease memory consumption for macro processing that may be a cause of freezes. If it doesn't help, create an issue here https://github.com/intellij-rust/intellij-rust/issues/new …
