It might also be related to the screen size and scaling. Do you have an external display? What are its characteristics?

Standard retina 15” MBP. No external. Just upgraded to Catalina (not clean install). Working fine before.

I literally just upgraded to Catalina last night. Everything was fine in Mojave. Same version of WS. The latest. My iMac is still on Mojave no problems.

Thanks! We still have no luck reproducing the issue, sorry 😥 We'll keep trying and will let you know if we find something. In the meantime, can you please try WebStorm 2019.3 EAP - maybe it will work fine.https://www.jetbrains.com/webstorm/nextversion/ …

Can I see a screenshot from your retina display on OSX Catalina with Operator Mono?

Sorry, we don't have a license to this font. But you've said that you see the same problem in the IDE UI where the default font is uses so we assumed that font is not important.

I sent you a series of screenshots with different fonts. It's just Operator Mono that WebStorm has an issue with. It's a pretty popular font, and also costs a pretty penny. I'm sure I'm not the last person that will have this issue after upgrading to Catalina.

Can you please confirm that you see the problem both in the editor and in the IDE UI where the default font is used?https://twitter.com/stevensacks/status/1181872428479172608 …

Both. I have to turn both antialias off in Catalina. IDE font is default. I’m using Operator for the editor. There is no difference between bold and not bold when it’s turned on.

I only see the issue with Operator Mono in the editor when set to Subpixel or Greyscale. The IDE font (default for Darcula) looks correct (set to Subpixel). As you can see in this screenshot, bold and non-bold show up correctly.pic.twitter.com/oAdV9qKmwb

Just as an FYI, toggling OSX Catalina's System Preferences > General > Use font smoothing when available on and off has no effect on any font in WebStorm.
