After switching to CSS Modules in most of my projects I barely have to think about classNames anymore. In 90% of all cases 5-6 different names are enough. It’s usually only: wrapper, content, item, list, details and that’s it.

My biggest problem with CSS Modules was composition. It’s not really deterministic (that’s a big pita) and I don’t like that a lot of different imports would go into css files. Lack of mature tooling etc. also was a big downside for me (webstorm did great but still not ideal).

By the way, we've improved code completion for class names with dashes in JS in WebStorm 2019.1 ;)
