From being a hater of typescript, now I just love it.

How did you learn it? I despise it. For me it’s a constant fight against the tooling and I have no idea how to fix the error. (And graphqlgen takes 6 minutes which doesn’t help :) )

For me, the first thing I started loving typescript was theming with styled-components. There I discovered how its improve workflow. Then I said I need to make the next small step. So I started typing basic stuff and on rest used any.

Then added more things, and like this, I started to adopt more and more stuff. I still struggle with more advances typings. But in general, it improves everything from type-safety to better autocompletion.

@typescriptlang and @code team ships so many cool features so it's hard to resist. Sometimes library mismatch with typing. But you can always use any and go with javascript guts. Everything is stable and there is no need to fix stuff that often :D

And I learn it mainly because I started with graphql-playground and now inside @prisma doing an internship. I am a little bit sad that I didn't start using typescript earlier. From now I am starting only with typescript inside my projects.

Benefits from using typescript just outweigh downsides about it. The only problem is from the beginning cross first step. But how I said start with small things and just build on top :) Like with everything

Thanks for all of the info! So I shouldn’t feel bad when I just throw my hands up and use :any? :) I think my problem is I started big with a GraphQL server / Prisma and I feel like I can’t get anything done.

Using `any` is better than using no types at all - you can slowly walk your way towards a type-safe codebase :) Quick recommendation, this @software_daily episode with @felixrieseberg gives a great overview on TS, its advantages and how to get started 🙌https://softwareengineeringdaily.com/2017/08/11/typescript-at-slack-with-felix-rieseberg/ …

Oh nice, I’m out of podcasts for the drive to work and SE Daily is great. For one more tangent, has anyone moved to TS using @WebStormIDE ? I feel like most supporters are moving from @code. I don’t see much difference in TS vs JS and Webstorm.

WebStorm has integration with TypeScript language service, so the overall experience when transitioning to TypeScript shouldn't much different to VS Code.

You won't lose any features or inspections you're used to in the JavaScript files. And in TypeScript we offer even more intentions and refactorings.

Thanks for the reply! It feels the same in TS as JS (which is a credit to the great JS work). I think I’m just not using. TS correctly to get the additional help.
