Yes, I totally get that distinction. But what I'm saying is that the general public doesn't really get it, and so there's no real reason to retreat from the "alarmist" label (and by doing so you're being manipulated into downplaying the risks of AGW).

I definitely agree that arguing over semantics on an issue like this is a waste of time! Perhaps it's most constructive to emphasize that it's okay (and, in fact, totally reasonable) to be publicly alarmed when the objective data are genuinely alarming--as they are now.

I'm not saying we as a country shouldnt react. What I wonder is, let's say US did everything suggested immediately, and the rest of the world continues to pollute, then what?

This just seems like a ‘younger sibling’ argument. “Why do I have to go to bed early? My older (brother/sister) isn’t going to bed.” We should do what we know we must regardless of everyone else. We have the resources and infrastructure, let’s not abdicate leadership.
