    Late 17th century treadwheel from Catherington! The wheel was built over a well reputed to be nearly 300 feet deep, and was in use until about eighty years ago. It has been reconstructed in working order and there is a well twelve feet deep for demonstration.

    Pendean Farmhouse, reconstructed in 1976. The interior has been furnished with replica items to give an idea of the way it was originally used. The oak furniture, treen, basketware, textiles and ironwork have all been based on appropriate 16th and 17th-century originals.

    Poplar Cottage was built in the mid-17th century on the edge of Washington Common. Cottages like Poplar were the homes of landless or near-landless husbandmen, labourers & craftsmen, for whom the commons were an important resource, if only to pasture a cow or gather fuel.

    Tindalls Cottage was probably built between 1700 and 1725. Nearly all of the oak used in the timber frame was re-used from other, earlier, buildings. It is of the same general type as Poplar Cottage, with a gable-end chimney and a hipped terminal at the opposite end.
