“In compliance with the laws of Hong Kong” is the key phrase While striking is a right, the dispute must be related to the terms of one’s employment for it to be deemed a strike So the question would be whether or not the demand to close the border relates to one’s employment

The Basic Law (Article 27) safeguards that Hong Kong residents shall have freedom to strike, and the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 57) prohibits an employer from summarily dismissing an employee on the ground of taking part in a strike. The right to strike shall be protected.

. is also reminding authorities that, contrary to what Carrie Lam claims, striking is not ‘extreme’ or ‘irrational’ but a basic human right. Basic Law Article 27 Hong Kong residents shall have...the right and freedom to form and join trade unions, and to strike.

A message from the Hospital Authority to a worker who informed the HA she would join the strike. The HA head has avoided promising striking workers won’t be punished. The CE called the strike ‘extreme’ & ‘irrational’. HAEA responded the Basic Law guarantees the right to strike.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Chinese theft of American talent & IP is a serious and systemic problem. We published a Permanent Subcmte on Investigations rpt on this just last fall. Legislation is in the works to address this issue.

China secretly paid a Harvard professor up to $50k a month in salary + $1.5 million to run a shadow research lab in & recruit others for his team. This illustrates how far China will go to acquire top-notch U.S. research. I’m working on legislation to address this issue.
