Wasatch Snow Forecast’s Tweets

I recently received an email from somebody explaining to me in-depth why we are having a good season and, in all caps, at the end said “IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A WHALE!” My reaction…

Sometimes it helps to look upstream. Storm has not produced as much liquid/snow as expected in the Sierra Nevada. Perhaps we will see a similar fate here in Utah. 7-15" is still the forecast, but I wonder...

The forecast models showed up to 2"+ of liquid along the crest by Sun evening for the last few days, & even right up until the storm moved in Saturday evening. I can only find one that dropped the forecast as the snow started falling, the European model cut the forecast by 0.6".

I stopped posting on Facebook 2 years ago, and my posts on Instagram have been increasingly rare. I started using Twitter more because it was better for real-time info, but even it feels more and more like a wasteland. Every post I make now has bots commenting with crude photos.

We have a near-record base with a halfway decent storm in the forecast and yet I find myself feeling bummed about the upcoming pattern. It really is a sickness.

I get a lot of questions about runoff and flooding this spring. Short answer is that while it’s likely to be elevated, it’s unlikely to be as severe as ‘83 or even ‘11. What happens over the next three months will obviously be a key factor, as well as how rapidly it warms.

Snowpack update posted on OpenSnow! I looked at more than a dozen sites today, and almost all of them have surpassed last year's peak snowpack already, and many of them are already over our seasonal average peak snowpack. From here on out, additional snow is a bonus!

The coldest temperature in the state of Utah since the last time it was this cold!
Quote Tweet
For those tracking, it has been as cold as -59F/-50.6C in Peter Sinks, #Utah this morning. It's the coldest temperature recorded in the state in 21 years exactly. -62F/-52.2C was achieved on 30-Jan of 2002. #utwx @NWSSaltLakeCity @NWSWPC #wxtwitter

#RoadUpdate 👋 #SR190 travelers! A high volume of traffic is headed up the canyon this AM. Be prepared for congestion at the mouth and extended uphill travel delays. Consider adjusting your travel times or carpooling, and park to the right of it. Plan ahead for your PM travel.

Cache Valley and surrounding mountains got clobbered last night as that boundary stalled overhead up there. It will sag south this morning and the Central Wasatch will get in on the action too. Have fun! Go Niners!

Somebody told me they like that I make fun of Colorado. Folks, I genuinely love Colorado. I did my undergrad there, met my wife there, and have had many great ski days there. It's an incredible place! If you don't believe me, take your next ski vacation there and find out!
