Somehow 10 years have passed since John Fortey left the Warren. Since then John’s Watch has been lost to the sea (twice) but he continues to live on in the memory of those fortunate enough to have known him and/or his birds.

It’s wet wet wet at Dawlish Warren today! I’m always fascinated by what the sea can uncover here.. like these dune remnants. It really illustrates the retreat of this particular dune system in the face of changing human activity, sea action & weather patterns 👣

What came first? Chicken or egg? Driftwood or dune system? As the dunes at Dawlish Warren point shift its amazing to see old pieces of driftwood being exposed. It’s even more amazing to think that the dunes probably formed from collections of sand around these very logs! 🤯
