    The principle behind this assertion - providing cover for a pol's corrupt behavior for the good of the party is never ok - is sound. We'd be a much better country if we consistently lived by it.

    Calling them cowards and hypocrites is accurate but it misses their more important -- and evil -- role: They are co-conspirators in crimes that they know could bring down the republic. They are now as culpable as the increasingly out-of-control regime they're protecting.
