Big Saturday Read: Critical review of Constitutional Amendment (No. 2): Part 1 We start the month with a big one & it is truly the “big” in the Big Saturday Read. You may need a cup of tea or preferably something stronger as you embark on this exercise.

  2. 3. When the Chinese count the chickens they gave us, we must be able to ask how many chickens they have kept through these tax exemptions. That would provide a fair balance sheet of our relationship. For the avoidance of doubt, the same applies to other foreign countries, too.

  3. 2. The opposition forces and civil society groups dealing with social-economic issues should really be taking a lead on these issues. These are matters of substance, happening well outside the headlines, but with a great deal of long-term consequences for the nation.

  4. The Zimbabwean Government has updated a decree (SI25/2020) exempting Chinese company Huawei from paying income tax. The old decree (SI227/2019) exempted Huawei from paying tax since August 2014. This has now been backdated to December 2009 - 11 years ago!

Just another time when election observers chose ‘solidarity’ over an honest examination of a (flawed) electoral process.

  6. Fair enough Mr Chairman but how about committing to comprehensively review its election observation to ensure that it does not embarrass itself by making rash & ill-considered judgments which undermine the will of the people & enable election-rigging?

  7. Private interest theorists argue that regulation is a form of protectionism for those already in business & a barrier to keep away new entrants. Licensing rules such as licence fees, are cited as examples. They would have a field day with Zimbabwe’s new broadcasting licence fees

  8. Unable to find a defence in light of the embarrassment, regime enablers have chosen the path of diversion & suddenly become equal opportunity critics. They deal with embarrassment by repackaging the problem & placing it on your doorstep. It’s a form of guilt-tripping.

  9. How about saying to the people of Malawi “sorry we were wrong”? Just simple but decent admission of failure and an apology? A promise to be more meticulous & fair to them and the rest of the region would be a bonus.

  10. You say “there is a serious dishonest and self-serving narrative being peddled by those in opposition”. I’m pleased you have the ability to see this. That’s precisely how those in opposition see you and your colleagues’ reporting of the Zimbabwean political story.

My fellow Zimbabweans have supernatural powers. Since morning they have been announcing the verdict of a court in Malawi, while the Malawian judges have been reading the judgment!🤷🏾‍♂️

WHEN increase in money supply is causing hyperinflation which leads to shortage of bank notes, resolving the shortage by printing additional ZWL500 million, which is base money with money multiplier effects, whether direct or as an exchange with existing money is utter madness.

I hear they call it zaghrouta in Lebanon. Isn’t this what we call mupururu/kupururudza back in our Zim culture? Shakira's halftime 'zaghrouta' is both a meme and a teachable moment

After a January of food discipline, I decided to congratulate myself so I used an old village recipe to make chimupotohai (that which goes high in the pot!) And I’m happy to report that it came out perfectly, just like it was in the village. Even our Tino thought it was cool!

I understand this is a call for assistance by Zimbabweans who are held in police cells in Johannesburg. If true, these are terrible conditions which no one should be subjected to whatever the offence. Deserves media check & scrutiny
